This year the Show comes to the Ruidoso area thanks to the Inn Of The Mountain Gods and the spectacular job their grounds crew has done! They've redeveloped their golf course to accommodate tour play. This 5-day event starts on September 6th with a celebrity Pro Am followed by a practice round for the Pros on September 7th. On the 8th the play gets serious as the Big Boys compete for the title and a share of an anticipated $55,000 purse.
The New Mexico Open is celebrating over 50 years of tournament play this year. Since its inception in 1954, this event has seen such notables as Lee Trevino, Notah Begay and Paul Stankowski walk away with the top prize. Last year the tournament was held at the Santa Ana Golf Club where Omaha Nebraska native, Ryan Nietfeldt, took home $10,000 with his first place finish after carding a score of 7 under.

In the tradition of Pro Golf events, the New Mexico Open is a major charity sponsor. The University of New Mexico Childrens Hospital has benefited from the generosity of the fans and participants; this year the Open has pledged $100,000 over the next three years to build a nursing station with a Golf theme in the Pediatric unit of the New Childrens Hospital. These funds will come from a number of sources and you yourself can get involved. Over the Labor Day weekend, at the Inn Of The Mountain Gods Resort and Casino, a Crown Dancer Silent Auction will have beautiful art pieces donated by area artists for the public to bid on ... a portion of the proceeds will go to the Childrens Hospital charity. As an inducement to become a major sponsor of the tournament, those sponsors will be invited to play in the Pro Am. For more information on this contact Daniel Nunez at 1-505-464-7941.
Following the Pro Am, everyone is invited to attend a Gala Benefit Dinner where guests will feast on a sumptuous gourmet meal and have the chance to bid on charity auction items such as Ryder Cup tickets, 2006 PGA Championship tickets, trips, autographed items and much more. To reserve your spot at this wonderful event contact the Inn of the Mountain Gods Concierge at 1-505-464-7089.
